Aladdin is an American musical fantasy movie of 2019 created by Walt Disney Pictures. Director Guy Ritchie, who co-wrote the screenplay with John Augustus, is an adaptation of the 1992 Disney animated cartoon of the same name, which itself is based on the story of the same name from the movie One Thousand and One Nights. Movie stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen and Numan Akar, as well as the voices of Alan Tudik and Frank Welker. The plot follows Aladdin, a street boy, as he falls in love with Princess Jasmine, is friends with the wish-fulfilling Gene, and fights with the evil Jafar.
In October 2016, Disney announced that Richie would direct Aladdin's remake live. Smith was the first cast member to join him, signing Jean in July 2017, and Masood and Scott were approved for two leading roles in the same month. Key filming began in September at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England, also filming in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan, and continued until January 2018. Additional filming and filming took place in August 2018.
Aladdin was theatrically released in the United States on May 24, 2019. He raised $ 1 billion worldwide, becoming the ninth highest-grossing movie in 2019, and the 34th highest grossing film of all time for his theatrical performance. The film received mixed reviews from critics; while the musical scores, costumes, and performances of Smith, Masoud, and Scott were highly praised, the criticism focused on Ritchie's direction, CGI effects, deviations from the original film, and Kenzari's performance as Jafar.
